Alaska cruise packing list: What to pack for a cruise up north

packing list for alaskan cruise

Always aim for comfort and the ability to move quickly during your cruise adventure. Daytime calls for casual clothes so you can explore freely. Hence, knowing what to wear on an Alaskan cruise means finding a balance.

Night Light

One area of the cruise you can probably ease up on in terms of packing is what to wear for dinner. It's really easy to find yourself overpacking for an Alaska cruise because of the wide temperature swings involved in a typical sailing. I'd also recommend bringing a camera with a zoom lens or a cellphone that takes high quality photos.

Having sailed on Princess, Holland America, and Cunard cruise lines, our travels were inspired by sharing our unique life experiences during onboard presentations. Our comprehensive packing list ensures a stress-free journey, addressing cruise ship living and excursions. Crafted for any cruise line, it’s your guide to a seamless Alaskan experience – a perfect blend of our maritime life and cruise expertise. You’ll also want a daypack, dry sack, and belt bag for carrying all your necessities on the ship and during trips ashore.

Swimsuit for the Ship

It works best when applied within 24 hours of the incident, but make sure you don’t use it on fussy fabrics like wool, silk, or leather. Luggage Rules Are Fairly Lenient (So Don’t Stress)We’ve talked about how you have to pack for a lot of different scenarios when sailing to Alaska on a cruise. The good news is that unlike traveling on a flight, cruise lines are very lenient on luggage.

Mosquitos aren’t colloquially known as Alaska’s state bird for nothing. I’ve been to parts of Alaska where the mosquitos were nowhere to be found, and others where they swarm and poke you through your pants. I like that they come in a variety of women’s sizes from petite and long to wide. (The men’s version is sized by waist and inseam.) No matter the size, the fabric is thin, so it packs down to nothing in your suitcase. If only they gave out prizes for the most efficient packer.

Even though the air temperature is freezing, you’ll still see people enjoying them (especially the hot tubs). Tennis shoes can work, just make sure they will provide protection from the damp conditions and rain. Many tennis shoes have a lot of lightweight mesh in them – which is great for keeping your feet cool, but terrible for keeping the rain out. If you do opt for tennis shoes, leather shoes would be a better option since they will offer your feet more protection from the rain. Alaska’s cool climate often demands warm jackets and sweaters – especially if you are traveling early in the season. All they had was a birth certificate, and that wouldn’t work for flying.

I travel with Nikon’s small, folding waterproof binoculars. It fits in your hand, weighs less than a pound and can easily fit into a backpack. It’s basic, loose-fitting with room to layer underneath. Last year my daughter, who happens to love hiking and the outdoors, joined me on one of my Alaska cruises.

Plus you can never have too many memory cards, because trust me, it will be easy to fill up your SD Cards with the stunning scenery. Additionally, Alaska weather is wet, so you will definitely want some waterproof layers to protect you from the elements. A waterproof jacket is mandatory, but you may also consider waterproof pants too. Most people know that they need to pack some pants and warm clothes when they head to Alaska, so for the most part we’ve focused the list above on those items that aren’t as well-known. The solution is bringing some disposable wipes to help finish the job. Even if your cruise is a short one, you’ll feel much better having them.

It was a two-week cruisetour with Princess Cruises, where you spend a week on land and a week on a cruise ship — and I got it completely wrong when it came to packing. Growing up in Florida, Alaska was as far away as you could get. We’d suddenly swapped sandy beaches and warm ocean water for glaciers and towering forests, pelicans for petrels, and grouper for King crab. Outside of what you’ll wear in port, remember to pack for your time onboard the ship! Don’t forget to pack clothes for formal night, your swimsuit to wear in the pool, and comfy clothes for lounging in your stateroom.

When you begin to pack for your Cruise to Alaska you’ll need to think about being prepared for all different types of weather. I’ve created this list so you don’t have to stress out about you what to pack for a Cruise to Alaska. Sign up for our monthly newsletter, Under the Midnight Sun, with the latest updates about new multi-day tours and day trips from Alaska Tours. Part of the lure of Alaska travel is exploring its majestic outdoors. Even on an Alaska cruise, consider reliable, versatile outdoor gear a necessity. You might be on a cruise, but you’ll find yourself on your feet more than expected.

While on your trip, they can keep things like a phone dry in a pinch. And back in the cabin, they can help you keep dirty clothes separate from clean ones. When we cruised to Alaska, we found the packing to be a bit challenging. From warm, sunny days in the 70s to cool, rainy days where it doesn’t get out of the 40s, you need to be prepared for just about anything.

Cruises visit towns along Southeast Alaska, the panhandle of the state, which borders British Columbia, Canada. What to pack for an Alaska cruise is not as difficult as it may seem. While packing for a cold weather cruise may require more preparation than a cruise to the Caribbean, a few key layers should suffice in nearly all weather conditions. Footwear might depend on the type of excursions you are going to do. If you see yourself doing more adventurous activities, having a pair of waterproof shoes might be necessary.

Now I don’t have to double-check that my iPhone alarm is set every day or that I’ll hear it if the phone volume is off (yes you will). Don’t take a chance of losing those amazing Alaska memories. Whether you travel with a laptop or external drive, get in the habit of transferring and backing-up your day’s photos before you go to bed. Get one that can adapt to use with your smart phone and a camera. I always travel with my Joby Gorilla Pod for tabletop use that I mentioned above. And if you’re doing any really active excursions, think about attaching a sunglass strap so you don’t lose them.

Winter in Alaska looks fairytale-like, but the weather is not to be taken lightly. Even if you think you’ll be warm enough in a regular winter coat and typical winter accessories like a hat and insulated shoes, you’ll want to go further than this. Cruise lines don't typically provide them, and they come in handy, especially if you are traveling with kids, on long train or bus tours. Your ship might stock some, but you'll want your own for spotting whales, bears, eagles and other wildlife and for close-up views of glacial ice and other wilderness from the ship and on shore. If you plan to do a lot of hiking, you might want to bring a retractable walking stick for uneven surfaces.

In this post we went over what to pack for an Alaska cruise, which includes an Alaska cruise packing list for men and women and useful cruise accessories. Since the weather in Alaska is unpredictable and can vary, the best way to dress for days on land is by layering your clothing. In this way, as the day warms up and you become more active, you can remove layers and be comfortable. A waterproof phone case dry bag is an Alaska cruise essential.

The eastern Mediterranean is brimming with spectacular destinations and a diverse treasure trove of history, culture and scenery. Our Turkey cruise Vacations not only whisk you away to Istanbul, Dikili, Kusadasi and Çanakkale, but also take you on an adventure to scenic Greek islands including Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. For these cruises, guests are able to meet the ship in Kusadasi, Turkey; Heraklion, Crete Greece; Piraeus-Athens, Greece; or Thessaloniki, Greece. These are just a few examples of the many incredible destinations you can explore during your Gulet cruise in Turkey.

Spend a day cruising the Dardanelles between the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. Celestyal Journey, which entered service in 1994 and was acquired by Celestyal Cruises in 2023, will have many chances to redeem herself. She will call on Kusadasi many more times as she continues to offer 7-Night cruises in the Aegean Sea region until late October 2024.

Sprawled across the two banks of the Bosphorus, Istanbul is a rich tapestry of sights, sounds, smells and stories, with the city's historic heart being Sultanahmet, where most of its iconic ancient structures and buildings are found.

Another major reason to visit Istanbul is to sample some authentic Turkish food, and you'll find no shortage of excellent restaurants here. Kasap Osman is one of the top places to go for a traditional doner kebab, while Durumzade and Ciya Kebap are also both well worth a visit. The best time to cruise to Turkey depends on your interests, budget, and love of the heat. The summer months, June to August, are hot and can be slightly humid, although this is less so by the coast, where a sea breeze helps keep the evenings cool. Spring is an excellent time to visit on a small ship cruise in Turkey as the weather is generally sunny and warm but not as hot as the summer months, making this a good time for historical visits and hiking.

As part of a series of 7-night voyages that Celestyal Journey has been offering in the Aegean Sea, the 1,260-passenger cruise ship has called on Kusadasi, Turkey, quite a few times. But despite having prior experience with the port, sometimes things still go wrong. To say Turkey has a rich history is an understatement; the coastline and islands are covered with ancient sites, many of which are now found in abandoned locations. There are some locations such as Patara where visitors can have the best of both worlds, a long sandy beach with the remains of an ancient Roman city. Some of these include the opportunity to snorkel or kayak around directly from your small cruise boat. By following these tips, you’ll ensure that your gulet cruise experience is memorable and enjoyable.

The modern-day port has an exciting and diverse culture, which can be seen in its many cruises headed out onto the water, from where you will enjoy breathtaking views. The 16 Worst Cruise Ship Disasters in World History

cruise disasters

A swanky ship called Le Ponant was between jobs and only carrying its 30 crew members when it sailed through the Gulf of Aden in 2008. The Gulf is prime pirate territory, so the crew readied itself accordingly, with pirate-repelling fire hoses and lookouts at port and starboard. Before the ship could make it safely out of the Gulf, it was attacked by a team of eight pirates.

Tievoli, a native of Giglio, wanted to impress and “salute” local residents. Unfortunately, Captain Schettino turned off the ship’s alarm for the computer navigation system and later admitted he thought he knew the waters well enough to navigate by sight. However, the ship’s first mate testified that the captain had left his glasses in his cabin and requested them.

The attack on the Seabourn Spirit

There were no deaths or injuries, but the bridge sustained major damage. It was repaired and reopened later that year but permanently closed in 2016 after a new bridge was built in its place. Several incident reports attribute power losses to dirty – or degraded – fuel, as was the case in June 2017, when the Hong Kong-flagged Mallika Naree went dark on the Elizabeth River outside Norfolk, Virginia. The bulk carrier dragged a buoy nearly 400 yards before running aground. The investigation revealed about 16 gallons of water had leaked into the fuel oil supply tank.

More cruise ships are under CDC investigation following COVID-19 outbreaks on board

The cruise ship ran aground on 13th January 2012, after Captain Francesco Schettino changed the course of the ship to carry out a sail-by of the island of Giglio. Schettino refused to raise the alarm, and abandoned ship while passengers were still onboard. The 46 people who lost their lives all died at the moment of collision. On 24th July 1915, the ship would lurch and ultimately capsize while at the dock in Chicago, with many passengers trapped below the decks as the ship sank to the river bottom. Some passengers were also killed after being crushed by heavy furniture. Despite the ship being so close to the dock, it was impossible to get everyone out in time, hence the high death toll.

It can accommodate 400 passengers and 83 crew, and runs on a 6CHRN36/45 (EG70 -5) diesel engine. The ship was restored after the accident and is currently operated by Vodohod. SS Eastland was owned by Michigan Transportation Company and operated by Chicago-South Haven Line. It was constructed by Jenks Ship Building Company, which specialised in constructing freighters but had no prior experience in construction of passenger vessels.

“It was a night that, in addition to being a tragedy, had a beautiful side because the response of the people was a spontaneous gesture that was appreciated around the world,” Ortelli said. The Lusitania disaster resulted in the death of many Americans and became one of the major reasons behind the US entering World War I. On 31st August 1986, she collided with the cargo freighter Pyotr Vasev (source). This is despite earlier radioing the freighter and warning of a collision course, with the crew on the freighter claiming that they would turn and pass without incident, despite then not changing course.

Despite the frequency of power failures and bridge strikes reported to the Coast Guard, the maritime shipping industry has had relatively few major accidents like the one that toppled the Francis Scott Key Bridge. When the blackout occurred, the ship’s rudder was turned 3 degrees to the starboard side and remained stuck there as the vessel drifted off course. Its towering stack of containers acted as a sail for the wind, which aimed it directly at the bridge’s support column.

And the August 2014 death of a tugboat master when his crane barge hit the Florida Avenue lift bridge in New Orleans and the crane’s mast fell onto the wheelhouse, crushing him. “Lack of inspection, testing replacement/maintenance of the time delay relays” was to blame in February 2019, when the captain of the Portuguese container ship EMS Trader ordered an emergency lowering of the anchor. The ship had lost power, steering and propulsion not far from the Commodore Barry Bridge southwest of Philadelphia. USA TODAY’s data analysis revealed at least 2,600 bridge strikes occurring in U.S. waters since 2002, the earliest year for which such data is available.

Related Company Profiles

But the night of the disaster, a Friday the 13th, remains seared in his memory. The SS Admiral Nakhimov disaster in August 1986 resulted in the death of 423 people, mostly Ukranians, out of the 1,234 people onboard. The accident occurred in the Tsemes Bay near the port of Novorossiysk enroute Sochi. Saint-Philibert was a twin screw-propelled small cruise ship that met with disaster in June 1931 resulting in the loss of about 500 lives, sparing just eight passengers while on its homeward run on the Loire Estuary in France. The probable causes of the disaster are believed to be the flaws in its design and construction, inadequacy of its ballast tanks and overloading. The ship initially listed to the starboard side and further to portside, throwing off passengers and trapping some in the interior cabins.

Girders from the bridge cut through the cinema hall where the auction was taking place, and of the 395 people onboard the ship, almost half were killed. Despite the captain having relinquished control of the ship to his chief mate, he was jailed for six years for the incident. The Aleksandr Suvorov is a river cruise ship that is still operating sailings on the Volga, the biggest river in Russia. That type of pressure is difficult to mimic in a simulator, which is perhaps why the crew on the bridge of Cal Maritime’s digital ship operated with calm efficiency each time they ran through the scenario. Blackout, steering out, ship dead in the water, bridge looming, crash. Exacerbating the situation are the extremely tight schedules ships’ crews face to unload outgoing cargo and pickup inbound cargo before racing to the next port.

While still docked, the ship began to list to the port side, and reportedly, at some point, more passengers rushed to the port side, causing the ship to roll onto its side completely. Despite the river’s bottom being just 20 feet below and the shore being about the same distance, a total of 844 passengers and crew members died, including 22 entire families. One of the biggest passenger ships ever wrecked, the Costa Concordia had 17 decks, six restaurants, a three-story theater, and enough room for 4,200 vacationers. On January 13, 2012, Captain Francesco Schettino agreed to a request by the ship’s chief maître d’, Antonello Tievoli, and sailed closer to Isola del Giglio than normal.

Eventually, the Costa Concordia hit the shore and began to seriously roll. It was here—over an hour after hitting the rock—that Schettino ordered an evacuation. This was no easy task, as the passengers hadn't yet been told where to find the lifeboats. Complicating things further, the ship was seriously tilted, making escape difficult. But then, in a shocking turn of events, Schettino sailed away in a lifeboat, leaving hundreds of passengers behind. In 1912, the RMS Titanic famously struck an iceberg and went down in the North Atlantic.

According to Smithsonian magazine, the vessel began to list before it was even untied from the dock. In a matter of minutes, the Eastland had turned on its side, causing complete mayhem. Water began flooding into the ship, passengers were forced to dodge pianos and refrigerators—some unsuccessfully—and almost everyone on the upper decks was hurled into Lake Michigan.

A cruise is supposed to be a week of rest, relaxation, and adventure, but for the people on the cruises on this list, it was a nightmare. This list is full of the worst cruise ship disasters in history, from disease outbreaks, to power outages, to shipwrecks. The Mexican government said Tuesday it would allow cruise ships with reported coronavirus cases to dock. The country's Health Department said passengers or crew who show no symptoms will be allowed to come ashore normally, while those with symptoms or a positive virus test will be quarantined or given medical care.

Command passed to the Chief Officer, William Warms, and as the night continued a fire broke out within a writing room. Acting Captain Warms tried to beach the ship, but had to abandon his plan, by which point the ship was in darkness after the electrical cables were burned through. This was a Canadian ship, and she struck another ship, the Storstad, which was a Norwegian Collier.

The majority, however, were minor – a ship’s antenna or mast hitting a bridge, or a barge clipping a bridge’s protective fender. “That’s when you’re giving all your engine orders,” said Calnan, the assistant professor of marine transportation who ran the simulation at Cal Maritime for USA TODAY. Calnan has operated large ships himself and has experienced what is sometimes known as a dark ship, though only while out at sea. Roughly 500 feet from the country’s longest suspension span – crossed by nearly a quarter-million vehicles a day – the ship was adrift with no steering, no propulsion and no engine. Fortunately, a pair of tugboats were able to rescue the U.S.-flagged vessel and tow it to safety, where it was determined a broken air compressor valve was to blame.

Passenger Jumped From Cruise Ship in Front of His Family, Report Says

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Robbins Family during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for the Robbins family’s privacy, we feel it’s inappropriate to comment on the details surrounding the night of the incident. "None of the experts consulted can definitely say what's in the video due to the quality and length of the video," Trascher said. "The Robbins family has requested that we not entertain that theory any longer, so our official position is that we don't know what happened while Cam was in the water." The US Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to obtaining assistance from their partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. The students had only arrived on the island hours before the pirate-themed sunset boat excursion and had been staying at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, the parent said.

According to a CLIA report, only 28.2% of passengers who fell overboard between 2009 and 2019 were successfully rescued. Deborah Morrison, another passenger on board the cruise, told the Post that "there was a lot of yelling and that the crew was alerted immediately." Most of the 4,000 passengers aboard reportedly weren’t alerted to the incident until later that morning, when the ship’s captain made an announcement while many ate breakfast. In a statement, Royal Caribbean said it immediately halted the ship and dispatched boats to search for Parker, but had no luck.

Catamaran RideCheck the shore excursion options for a leisurely catamaran sail — a great way for kids of all ages to explore more of the beautiful waters of The Bahamas, even if they’re not big on swimming. And if they are water babies and old enough for a bit of adventure, look for a tour that combines a catamaran sail and snorkeling. Check for age restrictions, but most snorkeling tours are open to children as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Bryan Sims, a passenger who claimed he saw the incident unfold, told the paper he’d been hanging out with Parker and his brother in the hot tub. A memorial service for Robbins will be held Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge. Robbins, a standout baseball player, graduated from University Laboratory High School in Baton Rouge on May 21. The footage captures horrified onlookers on the ship frantically yelling at Robbins to “grab the buoy,” but the teen appears to swim in the opposite direction — possibly encountering a shark next to him. A chaotic video taken moments after the jump also shows the recent graduate ignoring onlookers’ pleas to grab a buoy. According to witnesses, the teen — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off a party cruise into the ocean near Athol Island at night.

The Blackbeard’s Revenge, which is designed to resemble a pirate ship, remained in the area for several hours while the crew attempted to look for Robbins. Nearly 400 people have gone overboard on major cruise lines between 2000 and 2020, according to the Washington Post. Sunday's memorial service will begin at 4 p.m., with visitation hours between 2 and 4 p.m.

Speculation grew so large that in an interview with Fox News, a spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy addressed the rumors, saying that Robbins’ family had asked rescuers to shut the theory down. #cameronrobbins #fyp I know they were drunk and probably didnt grasp the severity of the situation but to just record and say bye bye knowing he waw struggling breaks my heart. Three days later, Robbins and his friends joined graduates from other schools for a celebratory trip to the Bahamas, staying at the Atlantis Paradise Resort. Robbins was last seen splashing in the dark, “shark-infested” waters a few feet from the boat, before vanishing from view. Cameron Robbins, 18, graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge in May and was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from several local high schools.

His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess,” Sims said of the moment before Parker jumped. Social media posts show Parker often went on hunting and fishing trips. He also played football for North Port High School before he graduated in 2022, according to the Daily Mail. The release of his identity comes shortly after the Coast Guard called off its search for Parker.

Cruisers can get there by taxi (approximately $20) or by the #10 bus ($1.25 per person). Car – Renting a car is not recommended for cruise passengers because of the limited time you have in Nassau. Car rentals are quite expensive (over $100/day) and you’ll be driving on the left hand side of the road.

The Liberty of the Seas departed from South Florida and was 57 miles from Great Inagua in The Bahamas when the passenger went overboard. Sims told the Post that after leaving the hot tub, they encountered the passenger's father while approaching the elevators. Royal Caribbean confirmed that a passenger, whose identity has not been revealed, went overboard near The Bahamas at about 4 a.m. The ship was on its way to Fort Lauderdale after four days of sailing between Cuba and the Bahamas’ Grand Inagua Island.

The Coast Guard called off its own search two days later, after reportedly scouring over 325 square miles. The Coast Guard called off its own search two days later, after reportedly scouring over 325 square miles. "The ship's crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort alongside the US Coast Guard, who has taken over the search," the Royal Caribbean spokesperson said. The U.S. Coast Guard has ended their search for a Louisiana teenager who fell overboard from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas on Wednesday night. The Louisiana high school graduate who disappeared after leaping off a cruise ship into dark waters off the Bahamas last week may have met a grisly fate in the “shark-infested” area, a local official said.

Moments later, he said Parker leaped into the sea without a trace from an area that housed whirlpools and hot tubs. The Coast Guard assisted the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in search efforts by deploying aircrews. Royal Bahamas Defense Force Commodore Raymond King has told the Daily Mail the the water in that area are “really shark-infested,” which has fueled the shark-attack theory. Robbins disappeared three days after his graduation from University Laboratory School. The party ship remained in the area for several hours while the crew looked for Robbins. “As we were walking from the hot tub back to the elevators, his dad and brother were walking towards us.

Late Friday, the US Coast Guard officially called off the search, officials said. Junkanoo Beach – This is the closest public beach to port – less than 15 minutes walking. Junkanoo Beach is not a large beach and can get crowded quickly if there are several ships in port. All of the beaches listed below are public (no admission fee, no lifeguards) and are near the Prince George Wharf cruise port.

Celebrity Beyond: Discover Our Newest Ship Celebrity Cruises

beyond cruise ships

Stage Door features musical theater classics “accompanied” by a symphony orchestra recorded at London’s Palladium theater. The joy of being on a cruise ship is that everything is close by, nobody has to drive (apart from the captain), and your kids are safe. While any cruise should be about the places you visit, on Celebrity Beyond, the time on board will be as blissful as the days ashore, as there’s so much to see and do. Celebrity Cruises has gone out of its way, more so than any other premium cruise line, to promote diversity. Recently the line held a photo shoot on Celebrity Beyond showing under-represented groups enjoying a cruise on the ship, led by photographer icon Annie Leibowitz. Meet-ups for solos and LGBTQ+ passengers take place daily, and a Pride Night is held every cruise.

Like other Edge-class ships, Celebrity Beyond features Eden, a 270-degree, three-deck observation lounge[10] which features a ramp connecting decks 5 and 6, in addition to a cafe, a bar, and a dining venue. Positioned high above the bridge, these all-new suites offer panoramic views from front to back. And with over 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor opulence, Iconic Suites are also the most luxurious and largest in our fleet. I was thoroughly wowed by my meal at Eden Restaurant, the back-of-ship dining and entertainment space filled with plants, views from a three-deck-high glass wall and more than a touch of whimsy. My halibut was beautifully crispy on top and moist inside, and the lemon berry tart was one of the better desserts I've eaten on a cruise ship. Celebrity Beyond features double the number of single staterooms as you might’ve found on past ships, for more opportunities to book one of these coveted cabins.

So Much More Than a Suite

Two-story Edge villas also impress with a private plunge pool and living wall. Lastly, the ship’s Iconic Suites are known for their 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, and panoramic views everywhere you look. The suites are positioned over the ship’s bridge and provide an experience you’ll be hard-pressed to find on other cruise lines’ ships. The Edge Villa is even bigger, with 739 square feet inside and 211 square feet outside. There are only six of these two-story villas on the ship, so you’ll want to be sure you snatch this one up fast.

So Celebrity ditched the traditional love seat for a chaise lounge-style sofa, where mostly I dumped my daypacks, but also I could lay back with my legs up and Wi-Fi call my family. Celebrity Beyond offers all that the Celebrity brand does so well — an adults-focused, luxurious experience with all the latest and greatest in cruising (if not the biggest). While this cruise ship might not be a perfect fit for everyone, it’s an excellent option for those seeking a high-end opportunity to relax, recharge and indulge at sea. The Resort Deck provides a great spot to take in all the action, especially if you can snag a spot in one of the deck’s hot tubs. Celebrity Beyond’s wellness offerings are truly spectacular and go beyond just a standard spa and fitness center. Thanks to wellness partnerships with brands like Goop, cruisers will enjoy world-class spa treatments, state-of-the-art training facilities and a range of resources to help you meet all your wellness needs.

More about Celebrity Beyond

Decorated in hues of bubblegum pink and light fawn, with sweeping booths and marble tabletops (expect tables to be covered by starched-white cloths when sailings commence), everything about this space feels luxurious, and we adore it. The ship is also fitted with the Magic Carpet tender dock, designed to prevent hull collisions while anchored offshore. While sailing, the Magic Carpet is equipped with a bar and can be used as a patio,[11] when positioned at three different decks (Decks 5, 14, and 16). A new multi-purpose area that brings our destinations to life, The Destination Gateway is a portal that leads to all things global through onshore exploration and onboard enrichment. When not in use as a luxury embarkation station, the space is transformed into an intimate setting for programming centered on destination immersion, shore excursions, and more. If you love the idea of long, lazy days at sea, why not consider a transatlantic crossing as the ship moves between its different sailing areas?

Celebrity Beyond Cruise Ship Review - Cruise Critic

On a sunny day, there’s nothing better than sinking into one of the stylish gray-and-white sofas and breathing in the sea air; you’re surrounded on three sides by water and genuinely feel as though you’re flying. It's a ship targeted at Gen Xers, said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Celebrity Cruises' president and CEO, but with appeal for all. That's my generation, and I admit I fell hard for the ship's design-forward looks, inviting conversational nooks and cabins that are both modern and functional. If you are a light sleeper, do not book any of the aft-facing cabins on decks 7 or 8.

Other outdoor areas where you'll notice more space than on Beyond's sister ships include the Rooftop Garden, which has become more usable, with more arty coverings to protect loungers from the elements. You'll find two plunge pools in this area, although be warned that these are not hot tubs and also give people walking by a distorted full body view of those swimming, not unlike a fun house mirror. Interior space measures in at between 202 and 228 square feet, while each veranda measures in at between 40 and 89 square feet (so, depending on which cabin you book, you may find that you get double the exterior space!).

The Grand Plaza is the Heart of Celebrity Beyond

At Le Grand Bistro, you can dine while watching 3D cartoon chefs appear on your dinner plate to give you the meal’s backstory. Other attractions included the cold seafood towers (for $70) at Raw on Five and the kebab stand that is part of the expansive buffet. Boulud says his goal with the menu was to showcase global cuisine and to highlight his expertise beyond French cooking. I’m still dreaming about the warm lemon-scented madeleines that arrived at meal’s end. Grab a drink at the bar, prop up a pillow on a lush couch, and watch the sun go down over the ocean.

You’ll still experience the highest standards of cleanliness, plus the added flexibility of choosing your preferred time of service -all while traveling more responsibly. Guests of The Retreat enjoy exclusive access to the indulgent, inviting Pool Bar with private cabanas and plush loungers. Enjoy lunch or dine under the stars at the Rooftop Garden Grill, nestled perfectly in its own delicious corner of the Rooftop Garden. Discover the ultimate in outdoor eateries where you’re surrounded by the open sky and the most incredible ocean views around while you savor gourmet backyard BBQ favorites. Designed to awaken the inner-child in all of us, the Rooftop Garden is full of unexpected pleasures day and night.

These cabins merely offer a small, rectangular window on one side of the cabin, near the sitting area. As mentioned above, Celebrity Beyond was built to be slightly larger than prior Edge-class ships, including Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex. (Celebrity Ascent will follow in December 2023 as the fourth Edge-class ship.) As such, Celebrity Beyond is about 10,000 gross tons larger than its older siblings. It also features an extra deck along with being 20 meters longer than prior Edge-class ships. There are nearly 200 more suites and staterooms, as well as more dining and drinking venues. Plus, several spots throughout the ship are larger than they might be on past Edge-class ships (such as the class’s Sunset Bar and The Retreat).

From the incredible innovation to the intricate and thoughtful design around every corner, Celebrity Beyond takes cruising to a whole new level. On May 10, 2022, Celebrity Cruises announced that gymnast Simone Biles will be the godmother of the ship. One of the most popular spots on every Celebrity ship, the Solarium has been reimagined by celebrated architect Tom Wright, who used the ocean as his inspiration for this adults-only sanctuary. Browse itineraries here and plan your sunshine escape on Celebrity Beyond.

You’ll be able to enjoy the healthy menus and clean cuisine of Blu, a restaurant exclusive to AquaClass guests. If you’re conscious of fitness and wellbeing, book an AquaClass stateroom or Aqua Sky Suite and you’ll have access to the SEA Thermal Suite, a serene paradise of saunas, steam, healing salt crystals, and luxurious heated loungers. Celebrity’s long-standing mission to embrace diversity shines through on the new ship, including in the crew. Popular Captain Kate McCue, for example, at the helm of Beyond, is the first American woman to captain a major cruise ship. The new ship has taken what was already fabulous in sisters Edge and Apex, and made even further enhancements. Cool, stylish interiors meet expansive outdoor space dotted with greenery, secluded spaces, and bars with a South Beach vibe.

Connecting staterooms are an option for those traveling in large families or groups, while Aqua Class and Retreat Level cabins and suites enjoy exclusive access to private restaurants, lounges, pools, hot tubs, and the spa’s Thermal Suites. AquaClass staterooms, more than 240 square feet—are huge by cruise ship standards, and bathrooms, which are generously sized as well, feature a two-person soaking tub. The Retreat on Celebrity Beyond has been expanded to include a two-story sundeck, which includes a bar, pool and two hot tubs. In addition to the sundeck, cruisers traveling in The Retreat also enjoy access to a private restaurant, Luminae, which features exclusive menus designed by a Michelin-starred chef.

The Theatre is technically far superior to anything you’d find on Broadway, with vast high-definition screens, 110 feet wide, forming a backdrop to the dancers. Make time to see the shows in the Theatre in the evenings; they really are cutting edge. After the show, head for The Club for DJ sets, karaoke, and dancing; or Eden, for a fusion of music, intriguing cocktails, and acrobatic dance displays. The culture on board is one of warmth and acceptance, whether you are traveling as a couple, a single, a group of friends, or a family.
